Je-li organizmus v ohrožení vlivem ztráty značného množství krve, nutno dodat životodárnou tekutinu zvenčí. Pokud bychom však pumpovali krev i po dosažení její normální hladiny v těle, za nějaký čas dojde k oslabení srdeční stěny a nevratnému poškození celého systému.
